👋 Welcome Back, and thanks for spending part of your weekend with D3Direct!

Today is the 9th edition of Scholarship Sunday, a weekly series where we share resources & upcoming scholarships to help future D3 Athletes pay less for college.

As a bonus for our paid subscribers, we’re compiling our growing list of national & state scholarships into one database - the D3Direct Scholarship Database (link at end of today’s newsletter).

All previous editions can be found on our website (d3-direct.com), along with state-by-state D3 Financial Aid resources!

Resource of the Week

We ran a Spaces on Twitter (X) this week and got an interesting question from one of the 261 people that joined. They asked:

If a D3 coach isn’t responding, should a recruit seek out connections in the admissions or financial aid offices to help their recruitment?

We had multiple current & former D3 coaches on the panel and they offered a resounding ‘No’.

Prospective D3 athletes should be proactive with these other areas of the college process by doing things like getting their application in on time, completing FAFSA, and exploring merit/need-based scholarships available at each school - but they should not go behind a coach’s back while doing so.

Making it part of the conversation builds trust and shows coaches that you are organized and can take care of the things you need to do.

We agreed with their take and wanted to use today’s post to encourage recruits to especially pursue #3. The earlier you can reach out to the schools on your list and start working hand in hand with the financial aid office, the easier your commitment process will be.

Ahead of the calls or on-campus visits to their offices, take time to look through the resources on their website you can come in with a rough idea of how much money your family will need to pay at each school. Here’s one example of merit aid from a D3 school, Loras College in Dubuque, IA.

Not every school will have this, but it will give you and your family the most informed perspective as you begin to evaluate schools or if you’re choosing between spots you’ve already been admitted to.
