Scholarship Program of the Week
If you’re a high-achieving student-athlete from a low-income family, there’s a scholarship program that covers tuition, housing, food, and expenses at 55 of the top colleges in the country.
Best part: It’s free to apply. It’s been around for years. And most athletes we talk to have never heard of it.
It’s called the QuestBridge National College Match. And if you qualify, this might be the most important thing you do this summer.
The QuestBridge Match Scholarship is a full ride: tuition, housing, meals, and other costs of attendance. It’s provided by the college partner, not a third party, and it lasts all four years.
Do you Qualify?

What to Be Doing Right Now?
Start researching the college partners
You can rank up to 15 schools. Don’t wait until October to figure out which ones fit your academic and athletic profile. Thirty two QuestBridge partners, including Amherst, Williams, and Swarthmore, have strong D3 athletics.
Know your list you want to apply to before the application opens.
Draft your personal essay now
QuestBridge gives you extra space to tell your story, specifically how you’ve excelled despite financial hardship. This is not a Common App essay. It requires real reflection. Starting it in July means you have two drafts before the October 1 deadline.
Contact your school counselor now
Your high school counselor has to sign the Match Agreement Form. They also need to submit your Secondary School Report. Loop them in early because counselors with multiple seniors in the process get stretched thin in October.
Gather your family’s financial documents
You’ll need tax returns, household income information, and FAFSA inputs. Many first-generation students hit delays here. Get ahead of it all this summer so it’s not what slows down your application.
Sign up for QuestBridge notifications
The application opens in late summer. Go to questbridge.org and sign up for their mailing list so you know the exact date and don’t miss the window.
